From this question we found that people most expected to see a narrative which would show a clear story line for the audience to interpret. The next most popular was including a performance in the music video which 8 people had chosen. This tells us that these conventions are typical of a indie music video and it will fit well with our artists song. From these answers i can clearly tell what most people enjoy and which they would least like to see (e.g. parody). This has helped us as a group confirm that we will use a mix of both performance and narrative throughout our music video. From this we can tell narrative may be a bit more important than a performance so the ratio should be more towards a story line and then incorporate performance into the music video

We asked in our survey what will be most appealing and will grab their attention when watching the music video. Most people said they would most likely enjoy seeing a narrative, seeing the artist playing the guitar and seeing a slight twist in the narrative towards the end. I agree with these choices as i believe that these will work the best in a indie music video. The highest percentage was selected to see the artist singing with a guitar the most as having the artist dance and bright colours wont fit as well with the genre of the music. From this question i know to show my artist playing a guitar and to include a twist in the narrative as this is conventional of a indie music video.
This question helped us get an idea of what we want the artist to look like. 60% of people who answered the survey said that they would expect to see him in a check shirt and jeans. I agree with this as i think the artist should come across as simple and the focus is more on his voice than his appearance. However 15% of people said they would expect to see the artist in a shirt, trousers and straw hat. I don't agree with this high percentage as this is more stereotypical of a country artist rather than a indie artist. However i now know to make the artist look plain and just like a typical indie artist where they aren't materialistic and focus on their music rather than their appearance I would show this to the audience by making sure he is wearing a simple top, jeans and just normal trainers but nothing too special and no brands should be worn. This will help brand the artist in a positive way and this will also make him more appeal able to the targeted audience as they will be able to relate to him through personal identity. We then wanted to find out about locations, and how important it is to have somewhere suitable. 45% of people said that it wasn't important but it did help. This means that there are probably more important things to think about other than just where the music video is set. This tells us that our chosen locations will make some sort of difference to the audience watching it but there are other factors that the audience will focus on more (e.g. costume, props, lip syncing). From this i will make sure my artist will be positioned in a suitable location which will be clear for the audience and i will also make sure the other conventions in a music video are up to scratch. (e.g. the lip syncing and the guitar playing will be clear and in sync)
The answers we received for this question helped us get an idea of what would be their ideal indie artist. People gave a list of characteristics which included : trendy, passionate, quirky, unique, casual, simplistic.
This helped us get an idea of how we should make the artist come across for the audience, and how the person playing the artist in the music video will act. From doing this i now know to make our artist come across as quite plain (e.g. plain t-shirt, jeans and trainers) but make his music come across as unique
From our survey we also found out that people liked the sound of our idea. We got some bits of feedback when we asked how we could appeal our idea more to them.
- People said that we should stick to only 1 or 2 locations so there isn't too much going on, as this could disengage the audience.
- Add another character or a twist to the story line
- Make sure the narrative relates to the themes( the lyrics match the mood of the music video and what is going on in the video)
- Don't make the music video come across as cheesy and make it have something different compared to a typical indie music video about love.
With this information we could then go onto create my ideal audience member:
